Chicco Nextfit iX Zip vs. Nextfit Zip

Mamas know that when it comes to car seats you don't want to compromise on safety features. Chicco has been a leader in parent convenience and satisfaction, as well as making safe and easy-to-install seats for our little ones. If you're in the market for a convertible seat from Chicco, and you need a little more info on the highly rated Nextfit Zip and the newer Nextfit iX Zip, then this post will make things a little clearer!

SPECS

So right off the bat, it's important to note that these car seats are nearly identical. The iX has a few upgraded features from the older Nextfit Zip, which you can read about below. Otherwise the safety features, design, and installation are the exact same.

The Zip is named for its incredible feature of being able to unzip the entire shell and throw it in the washing machine. This is a mama win if I have ever heard one. No stretching or threading or messing around when you need to clean off the seat-- just unzip, wash, hang dry, and zip. Ta dah!

The seats also have a padded ComfortFlex Harness Management System, which is a fancy way of saying it keeps the 5-point harness buckles in place when you have to pull your little one out so you're not digging around in the lining looking for the buckles, or losing them under babe's bum. The harness also has 2 chest clip options to help accommodate for growing kids!

Both the Nextfit Zip and the iX Zip have the same weight capacity: 5-40lbs rear facing, 22-65lbs forward facing. And both have a 9 recline positions to best accommodate your child. Another great feature to take the guesswork out of the correct recline is the bubble level-indicators on each side of the seat that give you the range of recline that is safe for both forward and rear facing kids.

A great feature for the Zip and the iX is the Integrated LATCH system. This is something that makes installing your seat that much easier for parents, and when not using LATCH, you have built-in storage compartments to hide them so they're not getting in the way of the seatbelt path. Because LATCH is integrated, you'll be able to slide it down to the front of the seat for rear-facing babes, and slide it to the back when forward facing with no twisting or guesswork. LATCH even tells you in which order to tighten! So easy!

DIFFERENCES

There are three things that differentiate the Zip from the newer iX:

While both seats have an easy-to-adjust headrest, the iX has 9 adjustable positions (the Zip has 6). This is something to consider when you think about the longevity of your car seat, and keeping your child in the seat for as long as possible.

The iX also has the LockSure belt-tightening feature that keeps the seat belt locked into place when you're not using the latch system (or when the weight of your child and the seat combined have reached 65 lbs). This keeps you from having to worry about threading the belt all the way through and pulling it to lock. Just an added safety feature that makes your life a little easier!

Lastly, the iX has added an easy-pull harness tightener that makes tightening the harness straps super smooth, and makes sure your little one is strapped in nice and tight.

When you're looking for a convertible seat to keep your little one safe from newborn to big kid, then the Chicco NextFit Zip and iX Zip are two amazing options! With great safety ratings, ultimate comfort for your little one, and convenience and ease for parents, you really can't go wrong!
