Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!

Did you know that in the United States, the 4th of July is rated number 3 or 4 on most everybody’s favorite holiday list? Of course, this isn’t always the case--some people don’t care for the 4th of July all that much, while others LOVE it and rank it number 1. Wherever you’re at on this spectrum, there is so much to be grateful for while celebrating this holiday!

What makes this holiday so great?

Independence Day

First and foremost, the meaning behind the holiday alone makes this day pretty great. 1776 was a spectacular year and look at what we’ve become as a nation because of it.

Traditions

Thanks to my husband’s grandma, we sing “Happy Birthday to America” each year even though that isn’t technically correct. Well, I guess if we’re counting the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation, then sure--but I still find that tradition to be a silly one! I’m sure I’m not the only one who participates in funny holiday traditions that don’t make much sense. But hey, that’s part of the fun!

Trimmed Knot Headband - Cherry

Many 4th of July traditions revolve around these three things:

Food. Man, summer food is unbeatable.

Water. A trip to the lake, a day at the pool, or backyard sprinklers.

Activities. Parades, fireworks, camping, and so much more!

Community

The “fluff” (fireworks, BBQs, etc.) surrounding this holiday sets the 4th of July apart from other holidays. I dare say it’s the most community-oriented holiday of them all. And how fitting! Getting together with people you live near and people you love and celebrating a good cause. I can’t think of anything better. There is a lot to plan for so if you need some ideas on firework safety for your little ones, read here.

Red, White, and Blue!

Matching the whole family in red, white, and blue outfits is the cherry on top of this awesome holiday! The possibilities are ENDLESS. And it's easy! It doesn't take long to find the perfect outfit and accessories for any age group, boy or girl. And since you'll likely be surrounded by many people this holiday, be sure to ask someone to snap a picture or two of all of you together in your festive red, white, and blue!

It’s pretty special to be given this holiday to reflect and contemplate our nation’s history and what that means for our lives today. So on top of all of the crazy busy plans, the hot weather, the delicious food, the late nights, and the carrying on of a variety of traditions--don’t forget to take a few minutes to ponder what this holiday means to you! Happy 4th of July, friends!
