Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day!

At the Baby Cubby, we are all about giving props to the amazing parents that put in the time and the energy to make our littles our top priority, and Father's Day is the perfect time to celebrate the daddy in your babies' lives!

While it's true that mamas often get the spotlight for taking care of the little ones, the benefits for fatherhood involvement are so important! The more time kids spend with dad, the better they perform socially and academically, and they tend to act out less and have better overall mental health.

With dads being so important in our kids' development and happiness, they definitely deserve a day where we talk about the great things that they do to make our lives easier and make our little ones shout, "Daddy!" as soon as he walks through the door after work. Here's a couple of things I'm thanking our main guy for this year:

Long Hours

If you're like me and stay at home with the kids, you know the sheer relief when you hear the garage door open at the end of a long day and know that your knight in shining armor is about to walk through the door. A lot of dads, like my husband, wake up before the kids get up, get out the door to work, and aren't home until dinner time. Where they come home and play and sing and bathe the kids and act like they're having the time of their lives. When I've had a hard day, I just look over at my man while we're putting the kids down and realize that that makes two of us. And I'm so grateful he works hard so that I can stay at home with our babies.

Perspective

So when you've had it up to here (yeah, you know where here is, mamas) with your toddler, your one-year-old is teething and your AC just doesn't seem to be cooling down the house the way it should, it can be downright impossible to see the good in the world, let alone your kids. But when daddy comes home and starts asking the kids about their days, you start to realize how much GOOD there is. He is able to coax out the story from my three-year-old about the lego tower we built, and get the giggles out of our little girl that have been missing all day long. He gets home, and suddenly I remember why my kids are great. And daddies are kind of amazing that way.

I will be the first to admit that my house is not spotless by the time my husband gets home from work in the evening. I will also be the first one to admit that it is not spotless when he wakes up to leave in the morning. Basically it's a miracle if the place isn't a wreck at all times. But nothing is more incredible than a man who will work all day at the office, come home and help me by doing the dishes, switching out the laundry, and cleaning up the toys with my kids without asking why none of this got done earlier. Like talk about the real MVP. They really should pay dads more, ya know? Plus, let's not even get started about how nice they are when you try on a new bathing suit and aren't close to your "summer weight." Yeah, they definitely deserve a raise.

Fun

I read somewhere once that kids prefer playing with their dads over their moms when given the option, and I can say with absolutely surety that does not bother me one bit. There are times when I just peek in on my kids' room and see my husband and our two little ones sitting on the floor doing puzzles or reading books or playing with stuffed animals and think, "This must be what heaven is like". The things that fathers teach our children about kindness and confidence is something I will forever be grateful for. And kudos to all the dads who would love spending the weekend on the couch watching the World Cup, but instead, decide to go to the park with their kids or head to see a movie with their little bestie.

When it comes to being a family, dads sometimes get the short end of the "thank you" stick, and we think it's time they have their day in the sun! Give the dads in your life extra love this Father's Day, but remember that they should be celebrated for all that they do day in and day out for the difference that they make in the lives of our little ones. Happy Father's Day!
