Pioneer Day: A Summertime Holiday

Pioneer Day: A Summertime Holiday

Summer is in full swing, and there are all sorts of reasons to celebrate these days.  Warm weather, pool days, fireworks...the list goes on. But, for those of us in Utah, Pioneer Day gives us all the more reason to celebrate!

Unfamiliar with the holiday?? Pioneer Day is celebrated as an official holiday in Utah. It recognizes the day that the Mormon Pioneers founded themselves in the Salt Lake Valley. Even though the holiday has strong ties to the LDS church, it is celebrated across the state. Commemorating all those who emigrated to Utah during the pioneer era, which ended around 1869 with the arrival of the transcontinental railroad.

Generally speaking, this holiday is celebrated much like the 4th of July.: parades, fireworks, carnivals, American flags... the whole nine yards. Celebrating the beautiful state of Utah, and freedoms we are so lucky to have here. It’s a holiday that exudes summertime, and honestly, we’ll take any reason we can for more fireworks! I love fireworks!

Summer holidays and weekends have my heart. Nothing beats barbecuing with the family, water games, pool-side fun, and have I mentioned how much I love fireworks!? It’s one of the only times I let my kids stay up past their bedtime. We gear up for these weekends all summer long. Planning out the perfect camping spot, the yummy snacks we’ll make, and coming up with all the fun activities to keep us entertained.

Summer always slips by in the blink of an eye, and that first day of school is just around the corner already. Whether you like to celebrate your summer holidays in the mountains camping, by the pool, or barbecuing at home, we hope you are making sweet memories!
