Stretchy Wrap vs. Ring Sling Comparison

Stretchy Wrap vs. Ring Sling Comparison

Baby wearing is beneficial for both the child and the wearer. A carrier provides a secure environment for the child and leaves your hands free to get things done---WIN WIN!

With all the different kinds of baby carriers out there, you are probably left with some questions. Today we are going to compare two popular styles of carriers so that you can see the benefits and drawbacks of each.

Stretchy Wraps

Stretchy Wraps such as the Happy Wrap are ideal for newborns. Why? They provide a womb-like environment that your baby will love.  Plus, it feels like you're getting a giant baby hug so you're going to love, love, LOVE it too!

Carries for a Stretchy Wrap:

-Babies should only be worn on your front in an inward facing position.  Using other positions could result in hip dysplasia or other injury.

Pros:

-They are a cost effective form of baby carrier. -They have a short learning curve. Yes, that long piece of fabric may look intimidating at first, but I PROMISE that after a few YouTube tutorials and practice runs, you'll be a pro. -They're super comfortable!

Cons:

-They have limited carrier options. -It is not comfortable to wear older babies. For me, it was after my babe was 25 lbs that it was no longer comfortable.

Ring Slings

Ring Slings such as the Sakura Bloom Ring Sling are perfect for babies and toddlers who want to get in and out in a snap.

Carries for a Ring Sling:

-Tummy to Tummy: Perfect for newborns! -Hip: Use this carry anytime after they can hold their head up well. -Back: For use with babies 6 months + only.

Pros:

-They're fast and easy to put on and off. -They have front, hip, and back carry options. -There's a short learning curve. -They can be used as a particularly discreet way to breastfeed. -They can be used for babies AND toddlers. -They're easy to adjust.

Cons:

-I wouldn't recommend them if you have back and/or shoulder problems. The weight is primarily placed on those two areas so it can cause the wearer discomfort.

Safety

Whichever styles of carriers you choose remember this acronym for safety:

TICKS

T - Tight

I - In view at all times

C - Close enough to kiss

K - Keep chin off chest

S - Supported back

Happy baby wearing!
