Working Mom: Finding Time

Working Mom: Finding Time

Are you a mama that stays at home with the littles and works at home on the side? If you are, then you know all about the struggle of finding time where there is NEVER enough time.

So how do you make time to get your work done while being a full-time mama? Here are a couple of things that I've done that help make it a little easier!

Wake Up Early

Don't laugh! I know this can be the hardest thing in the world, especially when you want to take advantage of every minute of sleep you can get, but when you need to make time for work, this is sometimes a great option. I have found that even waking up a half hour before my kids normally wake up in the morning makes ALL the difference in getting work done. I have found this is so much better for my schedule than staying up later at night to make up for lost time, especially because considering the evenings is when I get to spend the most time with my husband (and that is valuable time, mamas). Depending on how much work you have to do during the week will change how often/how much earlier you'll have to wake up, but all-in-all it can really change the game!

Capitalize on Free Time

If you have little babes who pretty much want to nap all the time, have your phone and computer in a place that they won't wake them up and use that time to work! When you have toddlers, it is borderline impossible to have free time when all your kids want to do is cling to your leg all day. Try doing swaps with mama friends to drop off your little for a couple of hours during the week, schedule them for a tumble tots class and bring some things to work on while they play. If you have kids in school, that is primo time to work uninterrupted. Sometimes you may need to swap some time with your S.O. on weekends, or even a couple times a week, to have them take the littles to the park for a bit while you work, but just try to make the most of your day!

Daytime Sitter

Okay, mamas, now I know that this is not an option for every fam, and will absolutely depend on how much work there is for you to get done, but a daytime sitter can be straight up life changing when you work from home. You can take some recommendations from other mama friends, use one of your mama friends as a sitter, or drop off the kids at the grandparents for a few hours. Letting your kids have some fun with someone you trust will make it SO much easier to spend the undivided attention you need to get your work done during the day.

The truth of working at home when you have little kids is that you're going to have to make some adjustments, and have some early mornings and late nights. At the end of the day just remember that you're super mama--you get it done, and there's nothing you can't do with a little caffeine and creativity!
